Krabi Gets New Roads
Perhaps learning from the experience of Phuket with its overloaded road system, Krabi is taking advantage of the reduced low season traffic to widen and upgrade large sections of its infrastructure.
The section entering Ao Nang is just about finished making it a dual carriage way with hard shoulder allowing room for expansion and cleaning up what was previously quite a cluttered look.
The main Krabi to Ao Nang road is now in the process of being widened. This road weaving in amongst the mountains has always been slow and dangerous with many small accidents caused by overtaking. The new wider road should deal with this and make the journey time from the airport to the beach both quicker and safer.
The Ao Nam Mao road has also benefited from some major work, the road though the village itself has been widened with pavements and the road all the way along to Shell Fossil beach is currently being widened.
Apart from the main linking roads, many of the smaller rural dirt roads have been converted to two lane high quality tarmac roads.
This infrastructure upgrade has given the entire area a much cleaner appearance; tourists arriving in Ao Nang will now get a good first impression. The scheme has opened up entirely new rural areas where development until now has been limited to just a few long term residents building individual houses and villas.
Krabi's long term plan to become the eco friendly destination of Thailand gets a boost through this development, by getting the infrastructure in place should allow development to be cleaner and better planned. With the new airport, world class attractions and wide range of accommodation all within the upgraded infrastructure Krabi should be able to attract an ever growing number of investors in to the area.
